Mary Thompson: On 7/27/17, I donated a kidney.

The decision to be a donor was easy.  I researched and studied and watched every video of living donor donation on YouTube.  All of them.  Once I knew the ins and outs I brought it to my husband.  Pretty quickly he agreed, do I threw my hat into the ring, and gave it to God.  Every one was willing to come forward.  My brother, my sister, my parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins galore.  Friends the world over waiting for the word, "go."  It was going to happen.

My recipient is my cousin.  A strong, beautiful, and brilliant wife and mother.  She needed a kidney.  She was sick, very sick.  Yet she tried to talk me out of it.  A couple times.  She always made sure that there was a way out just in case.  How she managed life with her illness, and all the fear and uncertainty that came with it was beyond inspiring. She had, and continues, to walk with a grace that is no longer seen these days.  I gave her a lump of tissue, and she created a whole new world.

On 7/27/17, I watched God perform a miracle.

Tammaney Kaye Willmann:

  • Kidney Received: 07/27/17
  • Donor: Mary Thompson

About:  Tammaney and her husband, Rob, have two children: Lilly (15) and Kai (7).  She is a stay-at-home-mom, and has been since her oldest was born.  She is a treasure hunter, with a good eye for vintage items, an art, knowledge, and music lover, and beloved friend to all she meets.

Tammaney was in dire need of a kidney.  The past 8 years, due to health issues, she has been on disability.  She has been diagnosed with LADA, or diabetes 1.5.  LADA is genetic, but because it is a slow progressing form of autoimmune diabetesm, she didn't have onset until she was in her 20s.  Despite having done everything to keep from becoming type 2, including gastric bypass, she is insulin dependent.

Tammaney received her kidney on 07/27/17, from her cousin, Mary Thompson, at the
University of Colorado.  Thank you to the doctors and staff at the University of Colorado, and thank you to Mary Thompson - what an amazing person.  Please keep these folks and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
